A guide for HR and global mobility teams on arranging temporary hotel and serviced-apartment accommodation for relocating employees.
International and domestic employee relocation creates a major accommodation challenge for HR departments. An employee arriving in a new city may need temporary accommodation while searching for permanent housing.
This is where hotels and serviced apartments become valuable.
A relocated employee may require accommodation for 30 days, 60 days, 90 days, or 6 months. The ideal accommodation should provide comfort while giving the employee time to settle.
HR teams should consider location, monthly rate, furnishing, internet, kitchen, housekeeping, laundry, parking, transport, extension flexibility, and invoice requirements.
Dubai attracts professionals from around the world. Employees may relocate for roles in technology, finance, hospitality, construction, consulting, healthcare and other industries. Long-stay hotels and serviced apartments can provide a transition between arrival and permanent housing.
Large employment markets such as Bangalore, Mumbai, Gurgaon, Hyderabad and Pune also require temporary employee accommodation.
China's major commercial hubs — Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Chengdu, and Hong Kong — have fast-growing demand for long-stay corporate accommodation as multinational companies expand teams, relocate staff, and run extended projects across the region.
Companies sourcing accommodation in China should compare monthly serviced-apartment rates, proximity to business districts (e.g. Shanghai's Lujiazui and Jing'an, Shenzhen's Futian and Nanshan, Beijing's Chaoyang and Haidian), and whether bulk or group rates are available for teams of 10, 50, or 100+ employees.
Multinational HR and global mobility teams relocating staff into China should budget extra lead time for local registration requirements alongside sourcing accommodation in Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, or Guangzhou.
Instead of asking every employee to find accommodation independently, companies can centralise relocation accommodation. HR submits the requirements and accommodation providers provide suitable options. This creates a more controlled employee experience across every relocation corridor — UAE, India, China, and beyond.
Corporate relocation accommodation is more than simply finding a hotel room. It is about providing employees with a comfortable, practical and flexible temporary home while they transition to their new location.
