A guide to planning six months of hotel or serviced apartment accommodation in Dubai for an extended assignment or relocation.
A six-month stay sits at the edge between long-stay hotel accommodation and a genuine short-term residential rental — and at this duration, both options deserve serious comparison.
Hotel apartments and serviced apartments offer furnished accommodation, flexible terms, and hospitality services (housekeeping, maintenance, reception) without a traditional annual lease commitment. A short-term residential rental, where available, can sometimes offer more space per dirham, but usually requires furnishing, utility setup, and a security deposit structured very differently from a hotel stay.
At this duration, most properties are willing to negotiate meaningfully below their standard 30-night monthly rate — six months of guaranteed occupancy is valuable to them. Always ask directly: "What is your best rate for a confirmed six-month stay?" rather than accepting the advertised monthly figure.
Corporate assignees, engineers and consultants on defined project terms, and employees relocating permanently who want a comfortable bridge period before signing a full annual residential lease are the most common guests at this duration.
Six months is long enough to negotiate meaningfully on rate and terms — treat it as a genuine commercial negotiation with the property, not a standard booking.
